Apprenticeships
Carpenter Apprenticeship
Carpenters construct, erect and repair buildings and other structures made of wood, wood substitutes, steel and other materials. They work in residential, commercial, industrial and maintenance settings. Duties vary according to the type of job and can include exterior and interior finishes, repair and/or remodelling, or specialized work.

Electrician Apprenticeship
Electricians install, alter, repair and maintain electrical systems designed to provide heat, light, power, control, signal or fire alarms for all types of buildings, structures and premises.

Gasfitter Apprenticeship
Gasfitters size, install, test, and service natural gas and propane equipment ranging from residential furnaces to industrial boilers. Gasfitter - Class A certification is necessary to work on appliances exceeding 400,000 (BTUs).

Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) Apprenticeship
Industrial Mechanics (Millwrights) install, maintain, repair and troubleshoot stationary industrial machinery and mechanical equipment in factories, production plants and recreational facilities.

Instrumentation and Control Technician Apprenticeship
Instrument Technicians install, maintain and repair the measuring and control devices used in industrial and commercial processing. They work with a wide variety of pneumatic, electronic and microcomputer devices used to measure and control pressure, flow, temperature, level, motion, force, and chemical composition.

Parts Technician and Materials Technician Apprenticeship
Parts and Materials Technicians are in high demand in north/central Alberta and the skills obtained in this course are highly sought after by prospective employers.
Parts technicians manage and dispense parts inventories, and may be responsible for stock handling, identifying and cataloguing parts and assemblies, ordering, receiving, inspecting, sorting, or pricing and selling parts.
Materials technicians are involved in the movement of materials in a wide variety of industries including agriculture, forestry, health, manufacturing, mining, oil and gas, transportation and retail industries.

Plumber Apprenticeship
Plumbers plan, install and service plumbing systems, fixtures, piping equipment and controls. These piping systems may be used to transport water, waste, gases or hot liquids. Plumbers are required to study building plans and specifications to determine the layout for the plumbing and other materials, locate and mark the positions for connections and fixtures, cut holes through walls and floors to accommodate pipes, select the type and size of pipe required and measure, cut, thread, bend, clamp and solvent cement or solder pipe.

Steamfitter-Pipefitter Apprenticeship
Steamfitter-Pipefitters lay out, assemble, fabricate, maintain and repair various piping systems which carry water, steam, chemicals or fuel used in heating, cooling, lubricating and other processes. Steamfitter-Pipefitters often work both indoors and outdoors, and in commercial buildings, the Oil & Gas sector or industrial plants.

In this apprenticeship program, you will learn the basics of Electric Arc, Gas and Resistance welding, as well as study basic joints, types of welds, welding symbols and weld faults, plus gain hands-on experience in safe work practices in shop and lab, hand tools and power tools, equipment setup, trades math, maintenance and troubleshooting.

Certificates & Diplomas
Welder, Pre-employment Certificate
Welder-Wire Process Operators join components and sub-assemblies to make a variety of construction materials, using different welding processes and filler metals specific to the requirements of the finished product. This branch of the welding trade is restricted to Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW), Submerged Arc Welding (SAW) and other semi-automatic wire feed welding processes.
