Remotely Piloted Aircraft
The Remotely Piloted Aircraft Micro-Credential is an exciting opportunity to take the first steps into this emerging field of technology. Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) are becoming ubiquitous with new applications being continually discovered. This program will prepare students to challenge the Transport Canada exams and flight review to receive their Pilot Certificate – Basic Operations, and Pilot Certificate – Advanced certification.
This program is offered in collaboration with Eagle Eye Drone Services.
Basic Remotely Piloted Aircraft Ground School - (RPA01) - 15 hours
This course will introduce students to Canadian regulations surrounding the use of Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) - aka Drones or UAVs (Unmanned Air Vehicles). Focus will be on RPA with a maximum takeoff weight between 250 grams up to and including 25 kg and within visual line of site as per Transport Canada Canadian Aviation Regulations, Part IX regulatory framework. This course will prepare students to take and pass the Transport Canada's Small Basic RPAS exam.
Advanced Remotely Piloted Aircraft Ground School (RPA02) - 15 hours
This course will build on topics covered in RPA01, RPA Ground School for Basic Operations. The focus will be on advanced topics surrounding the use of Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) - aka Drones or UAVs (Unmanned Air Vehicles) in complex airspace. Focus will be on RPAS with a maximum takeoff weight between 250 grams up to and including 25 kg and within visual line of sight as per Transport Canada's Canadian Aviation Regulations, Part IX regulatory framework. The course will prepare students to take and Pass Transport Canada's Small Advanced RPAS exam and flight review. Pre-requisite: Basic Remotely Piloted Aircraft Ground School (RPA01).
Advanced Remotely Piloted Aircraft Flight Review (RPA03) - 7 hours
This course will focus on hands on learning where learners will be able to put the concepts learned in RPA01 and RPA02. Students will receive 7 hours of in-person instruction using RPAS provided by Northwestern Polytechnic. Students will learn to fly both manually piloted missions as well as autonomous missions, with safe usage being a top priority. This course will prepare learners to take and pass a Transport Canada recognized Flight Review to complete the requirements for obtaining their RPAS Advanced Operations Pilot Certificate. Pre-Requisites - RPA01 and RPA02.
