Basic Remotely Piloted Aircraft Ground School (RPA01)
Description
The Remotely Piloted Aircraft Micro-credential is an exciting opportunity to take the first steps into this emerging field of technology. Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) are becoming ubiquitous with new applications being continually discovered. This program will prepare students to challenge the Transport Canada exams and flight review to receive their Pilot Certificate – Basic Operations, and Pilot Certificate – Advanced certification.
Basic Remotely Piloted Aircraft Ground School - RPA01 - 15 hours - in collaboration with Eagle Eye Drone Services - Fall Dates to Follow
This course will introduce students to Canadian regulations surrounding the use of Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) - aka Drones or UAVs (Unmanned Air Vehicles). Focus will be on RPA with a maximum takeoff weight between 250 grams up to and including 25 kg and within visual line of site as per Transport Canada Canadian Aviation Regulations, Part IX regulatory framework. This course will prepare students to take and pass the Transport Canada's Small Basic RPAS exam.
Upon successful completion of this course, leaners will be able to:
- Gain an understanding of the rules and regulations in Canada surrounding flying Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS)
- Be able to identify different types of RPAS and the benefits of each
- Identify location, airspace and potential hazards for a potential flight area to accurately determine whether a flight can proceed and use this knowledge to create an accurate site survey
- Assess weather conditions to ensure compliance with the Canadian Aviation Regulations and ensure the safety of all flights
- Create checklists for pre- and post-flight planning as well as emergency response
- Effectively manage a basic RPAS mission and crew
