Community
As a Comprehensive Community Institution – i.e. your local College, GPRC has a commitment to meet the post-secondary learning needs of its communities – and that has included research for decades. With the acquisition of an official mandate for research and innovation (2007), the College can directly assist community groups and government with their research and innovation needs.
In 2010, that included a Scenario Planning session for PREDA. A Memorandum of Agreement was completed in 2013 with the Grande Prairie Detachment of the RCMP to address research questions that were of interest to the detachment.
More recently, Dr. Connie Korpan (Psychology Instructor) and Andreana Angelopoulos (graduate student) completed a study on behalf of the Local Immigrants Settlement Service Council and the City of Grande Prairie.
Community Enhancement Research
The type of research described above is now referred to as Community Enhancement Research. Recently, the College has been working with the City of Grande Prairie, the RCMP, Alberta Health Services to conduct a review of the Grande Prairie Police and Crisis Team program.
