Distinguished Alumni Award - Bridget Hennigar
The Distinguished Alumni Award is the most prestigious award of the GPRC Alumni/Foundation. This award was established to recognize GPRC alumni for outstanding accomplishments in their professions, and/or in service to their community, society or GPRC. The Distinguished Alumni is an example of alumni success for current and future GPRC students.
The achievements of Bridget Hennigar are an inspiration, and a strong example of the impact that GPRC alumni make in the communities of our region, in our Province, and across our Country. Throughout her career she has consistently demonstrated that we can make a difference with the education we receive, and that it is our role to help our communities achieve major projects, sustain volunteer organizations, build businesses, and to help create a sense of community.
Bridget Hennigar is a proud and dedicated Chartered Accountant. She began her studies at GPRC, and then completed her Bachelor of Commerce through the University of Alberta. She obtained her Chartered Accountant designation in 1982 and became a Partner at J.H. Bennion & Co. in 1985. The firm evolved into Hennigar Anderson Frey in 1993 and eventually merged with Meyers Norris Penny LLP where Bridget became the Regional Managing Partner of the Peace Region in 2002. In the ensuing years, she has enthusiastically recruited GPRC grads to careers at MNP.
Bridget is currently serving as a Council Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta (ICAA), which is a demanding role at this time of change for the accounting profession. She has also served as Chair of the Merit Review Committee for ICAA.
In 2000, Bridget Hennigar received a Distinguished Service Award from ICAA and in 2010 was recognized by the Institute by the highest designation that the profession bestows: Fellow of Chartered Accountants.
In her role at MNP, Bridget actively promotes community involvement among the staff, encouraging and enabling their participation in community events such as the 2010 Arctic Winter Games, fundraising for the United Way, and involvement with the QEII Hospital Foundation’s Festival of Trees.
Bridget Hennigar has demonstrated outstanding excellence and service to her profession, to her community, and to society in general through selflessly giving of her time and energy. She has served numerous community organizations, in roles including: President of GPRC Alumni Foundation Board (97-98), President of the GP & District Chamber of Commerce, Treasurer of Centre 2000, Treasurer of the Northern Extreme Freestyle Skiing Association, and currently as President of the Grande Prairie Regional Agricultural and Exhibition Society. In addition to these official roles, she has been involved in many other organizations as a member of committees and working wherever her skills were needed.
