Steps to the Greater Alumni Award – Ryan Pomeroy
This is the second year that GPRC has presented the Steps to the Greater Alumni Award, which recognizes the outstanding achievements of GPRC alumni early in their careers.
Former Wolves Volleyball star Ryan Pomeroy has accomplished a great deal in the years since he dominated the nets here and in international competition. Today, as President of Pomeroy Inn & Suites Inc. and Pomeroy Lodging LP, Ryan is a leader who continues to prove what ambition, focus, strategic thinking and an unrelenting drive to succeed can accomplish. In a few short years, he has worked to build a company and a legacy of brands that is known throughout our region and across Canada.
Ryan Pomeroy was appointed President in 2005, and since then he has been instrumental in closing several deals that have strategically positioned the company for success. He has restructured the organization into Pomeroy Lodging LP and has added several more hotels into the portfolio, including the purchase of the Stonebridge brand and the Grande Prairie Inn – now renovated and rebranded as Pomeroy Hotel and Conference Centre. Pomeroy Lodging now owns and operates 16 hotels, five restaurants, and a Gaming Centre, with plans of continued growth.
Ryan is also deeply committed to honouring his roots and supporting his community, and to the Peace Region. He has been involved in many large-scale community projects, including becoming the title facility sponsor for the Pomeroy Sport Centre in his home town of Fort St. John. On a personal level, Ryan has founded and funded Impact Volleyball camps for kids, supported local citizens in need through such projects as the Warriors Fund, and funded academic scholarships through GPRC in memory of his brother, Tim Pomeroy.
Ryan is focused on building and expanding the company while maintaining his base in Grande Prairie, proving that big business, entrepreneurial innovation and success can all be realized here in our community. He began his journey at GPRC and years later sits at the helm of an organization that believes business can deliver positive change – to our communities, our environment and our society as a whole.
