Realistic Emergency Scenario Set to Unfold in Campus Parking Lot

Multi-Agency Mass Casualty Training Event will help boost skills and knowledge.
First response agencies, community partners, and Northwestern Polytechnic (NWP) are coming together for a Multi-agency Mass Casualty Training event on April 24, 2025 from 10:00 am -2:00 pm.
This scheduled training exercise will occur in the NWP parking lot, south of the STARS air ambulance landing pad at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital and will involve more than 100 participants, including volunteer patients, post-secondary students, and current industry professionals.
Event partners, including Advanced Paramedic Ltd., AHS Emergency Medical Services, Grande Prairie Fire Department, Grande Prairie Police Service, RCMP, STARS air ambulance, and NWP have been planning the hands-on simulation exercise over the last few months.
The goal is to provide an immersive experience that enables NWP paramedic and nursing students and local first responders to develop and practice skills in a safe, controlled setting. As they work through the set scenario, students and responders will solve problems, fine-tune coordination and decision-making, and foster collaboration between multiple response agencies to improve real-world outcomes.
The public should know that this is a scheduled training exercise and there is no actual emergency. The community will see emergency vehicles, STARS air ambulance operations, and first responders actively engaged in realistic operations based on a training scenario. During the training event, residents may hear loud noises, see simulated casualties, and witness emergency responders conducting mock rescues and evacuations.
"We appreciate the patience and understanding of the Grande Prairie community as we conduct this critical training exercise. This large-scale simulation is an invaluable opportunity for first responders, healthcare professionals, and Paramedic and Nursing students to refine their skills, strengthen teamwork, and enhance overall emergency preparedness. Multi-agency collaboration is key to improving outcomes in high-stakes emergencies, and this exercise allows responders to fine-tune coordination, decision-making, and communication. We thank the public for their support and cooperation as we work to build a safer, more resilient community."
