Practical Nurse Graduates Achieve Healthy Results
Monday, April 7th, 2025

Northwestern Polytechnic’s School of Health team and Practical Nurse Class of 2025 are celebrating yet again.
For the second year in a row, NWP Practical Nurse graduates achieved a 100% pass rate on the national nurse registration exam.
“The Canadian Practical Nurse Registration Examination is a standardized test that nursing graduates must pass to become licensed practical nurses in Canada,” explains NWP School of Health Dean, Megan Stone. “It is the final step required for practical nursing students to become registered to practice, so this is certainly an encouraging nod to the quality of graduates joining our healthcare workforce.”
This cohort of NWP Practical Nurse students exceeded national and jurisdictional averages in all exam categories, including critical thinking, foundations of practice, knowledge and comprehension, and professional, ethical and legal practice.
Tia Hudson, Chair of the Practical Nurse and Health Care Aide department, says these impressive results speak to the dedication of the graduates and the faculty who support them. “It’s super exciting and a great reminder of why we’re all here,” she says. “I’m feeling sheer pride for the students and for our team who works so hard. This achievement is a true reflection of the dedication, passion, and hard work that our team and students bring to the classroom.”
Following their success, the next step for these students is NWP’s pre-convocation Pinning Ceremony in June. This is a time-honoured tradition when graduating nurses are presented with a pin to welcome them to the profession and recognize their commitment to selflessness in caring for others.
Dr. Vanessa Sheane, NWP President and CEO applauds the diligence of this committed cohort of practical nurses. “These graduates are positioned to really make a difference in our healthcare system, locally and provincially,” she notes. “Northwestern Polytechnic is immensely proud to launch these professionals into our communities so they can share their exceptional skills and compassion.”
NWP’s two-year Practical Nursing diploma is offered at the Grande Prairie and Fairview campuses and offers multiple pathways toward fulfilling careers in healthcare. For more information about Northwestern Polytechnic’s programs, visit NWPolytech.ca.
