Tony Kibonge, a third-year guard for the Wolves men's basketball team, proved why he's among the most talented players in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) with an outstanding performance on Saturday. In a thrilling game that saw the Wolves face off against their toughest opponents yet, Kibonge's clutch shooting and all-around play were the key factors in keeping the team in the hunt for a win.
Kibonge finished the game with an impressive 28 points, shooting 8-for-14 (57%) from three-point range. His biggest moment came with just 1.7 seconds remaining, when he drilled a game-tying three-pointer to send the game into overtime. His timely shot showcased not only his scoring ability but also his composure under pressure, a quality that has made him a standout player this season. Kibonge's contribution wasn't limited to his scoring. He also grabbed 4 rebounds, dished out 2 assists, and recorded 1 steal, further cementing his value to the team on both ends of the floor. His defensive effort and unselfish playmaking were crucial in helping his teammates stay involved and keep the game close.
Evan Lloyd, Head Coach of the Men's team, spoke highly of Kibonge's leadership both on and off the court. "Tony is a tremendous player and student-athlete who wants to learn and improve his game."
On Kibonge's rise up the stats rankings, Lloyd says that "with every passing game, he has found his stride and is quickly becoming one of the premier guards in the ACAC. He brings a lead-by-example approach to the team, and his growth as a player has been remarkable. He's one of the best three-point shooting guards in the league, and his development as a playmaker and rebounder has made him an even bigger asset to the Wolves."
As the season progresses, Tony continues to impress with his ability to rise to the occasion and lead his team in high-pressure situations. His remarkable shooting, leadership, and well-rounded play make him a player to watch as the Wolves aim to secure a strong finish in the ACAC standings.
