Lorilee and Brent Rheaume who created the scholarship state that the pillars of the Rheaume Family Foundation are people, causes and community. The Foundation has in the past provided application fees, emergency housing, and bursaries to students in need.
“The Onward and Upward Bursary was established to assist students transitioning from high school to post-secondary education who have exemplified great character in challenging circumstances,” said Lorilee Rheaume.
“In working with non-profits across the country, the Foundation identified a gap in resources for young males and females who wish to pursue further education and build their careers who have not had traditional childhoods. We provide aid to students who need financial assistance to continue their studies past high school that otherwise would not be possible.”
Scholarship awardee Jared Wilson graduated from Beaverlodge Regional High School and is currently enrolled in the University Transfer Science program at Northwestern Polytechnic. He has shown remarkable determination and perseverance throughout his academic journey. With a keen interest in biology and a passion for marine life, Jared aspires to become a Marine Biologist.
The Rheaume Family Foundation, through their generous contribution, aims to support individuals like Jared, who have overcome challenges and exhibit a strong commitment to their academic pursuits. This scholarship not only recognizes Jared's achievements but also provides him with the opportunity to further his education and contribute to the scientific community.
“Jared was selected for his character and work ethic in and out of the school setting. Most impressive was his desire to further his education to better himself. He understands the value of post-secondary education but just needed a hand up to start that journey,” Rheaume added.
Upon receiving the scholarship, Jared expressed his appreciation, stating, “I'm extremely grateful to receive this scholarship because I don't believe I would have been able to get a post-secondary education without it.”
Both the Rheaume Foundation and Northwestern Polytechnic are excited for Jared’s remarkable achievements and looking forward to supporting his continued academic and professional success.
“NWP is proud to partner with our learning community to uplift and empower next generation professionals and we are absolutely delighted to welcome Jared into the Wolfpack,” said NWP President and CEO, Dr. Vanessa Sheane. “It is this kind of ambition, attitude and energy that sets our students and graduates apart.”
