News Archives: Northwestern Polytechnic and University of Lethbridge Cultivate New Partnership

Northwestern Polytechnic (NWP) and University of Lethbridge recently penned an agreement that will broaden educational pathways for students at NWP’s Fairview campus.
As part of the new collaborative partnership, NWP’s Animal Health Technology (AHT) Diploma graduates will be able to seamlessly transfer into a Post-Diploma Bachelor of Arts or Post-Diploma Bachelor of Science (Agricultural Studies) at the University of Lethbridge.
“NWP is proud to work with partner Universities on collaborative programming that supports students,” said Dr. Vanessa Sheane, acting NWP President and CEO. “This new agreement gives our AHT graduates the option to build on their studies and gain a four-year degree qualification.”
Alberta’s newest polytechnic is quite familiar with collaborative post-secondary degree programming. NWP currently offers collaborative degree programs for Nursing, Arts, Science, Education and more. And for those looking to complete their degree without leaving the region, NWP is kicking off Bachelor of Business Administration, and Bachelor of Computing Science degrees this fall.
“NWP helps students establish a solid learning foundation while they get used to the post-secondary environment,” says Dr. Sheane. “We always want to give our Wolfpack the best possible launch into the next phase of their career or academic journey.”
The Animal Health Technology diploma is a great choice for those interested in learning more about animal nursing, surgical assistance, and laboratory procedures. This program can be completed in two years.
“The agricultural teaching and learning facilities at our Fairview campus are exceptional both large and small animals,“ says Kristy Honing, Chair Animal Science Department and RVT. “NWP students also get the advantage of a six-week industry practicum where they can hone their skills and make career connections.”
Students looking to continue at the U of L must have a 2.5 grade point average or higher to transition into the degree track.
“There is a new era of cooperation in post-secondary delivery,” adds Dr. Sheane. “With that comes an appreciation for great programs across our province and the distinctive strengths of each institution.”
