New talent, positions, and strategic direction will help advance entrepreneurial agenda.
The transformation of Alberta’s newest polytechnic institution is continuing to gain speed with a promising new Centre for Entrepreneurial Excellence.
“Over the last few months, our staff and executive have been working diligently to carve out a strategic plan that will leverage the entrepreneurial assets in Northwestern Alberta, attract opportunity, and deliver a distinctive student experience,” said Justin Kohlman, CEO and President. “The Centre for Entrepreneurial Excellence (CEE) is in its early days, but it will be integral in preparing for the future, perfecting processes and defining our region’s competitive edge.”
Dr. Andrew Dunlop will assume the role of Associate Vice-President, CEE and Applied Research. This is a new position at the institution that will lead the establishment of the innovative space for solution focused learning, research, creativity and partnership.
With more than 15 years of higher education administrative experience in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta, Dr. Dunlop has a deep understanding of Canadian applied research and funding opportunities. He has served as the Dean/Director of Applied Research at NWP for the last six years and helped secure various collaborative grants for promising agriculture and clean technology initiatives.
While Dr. Dunlop will commence his role immediately, NWP will also welcome two new Deans in the coming months. Ms. Caitlin Hartigan will take on the role of Dean for the School of Skilled Trades in late July. Ms. Hartigan is currently the Dean of Trades at Keyano College and was previously the Director of Continuing Education at Grande Prairie Regional College. Dr. Harrison Applin will take on the role of Dean for the School of Health and Education in August. Dr. Applin is currently the Dean of Health and Community Services at Medicine Hat College.
“We feel very fortunate to have such knowledgeable, respected and skilled professionals joining our team,” said Dr. Vanessa Sheane, Provost and Vice-President Academic. “This is a very exciting time for NWP, and we are all looking forward to working with our learning community to bring our strategic plan to life.”
