FAIRVIEW - Grande Prairie Regional College (GPRC) is pleased to announce the formation of the GPRC Fairview Community Advisory Council with its inaugural meeting taking place later this spring.
Guided by the College’s vision of building sustainable communities and leadership in educational excellence, the Council will establish strategies to build, strengthen, and foster relationships between the community of Fairview and GPRC. Working within the Academic and Research portfolio, the Council will advance industry connections while creating greater awareness of GPRC research initiatives and programming.
“We recognize the collective benefits of timely dialogue and productive partnerships,” said Paul Buck, Acting Chair of the GPRC Fairview Community Advisory Council. “This new advisory body will provide the impetus for improved connections and results.”
With the goal of enhancing the overall student experience, the 15-member Council will focus on nurturing community links and equipping students with skills for life. The Council’s work will be integral to the development of mutually beneficial relationships with the College’s Fairview campus as well as advancement of opportunities for academic programming, work integrated learning and industry driven applied research.
“Through this advisory council, our College will strengthen ties with research and economic development leaders in our Fairview region,” said Dr. Vanessa Sheane, Interim Vice-President, Academic and Research. “By opening the door to conversations with our communities, key alumni, and industry partners GPRC will benefit from a better understanding of real labour-market challenges along with the necessary solutions.”
The Council will meet quarterly to identify opportunities for the College to collaborate and partner on research and innovation projects, and feed into potential program expansions, development, and revisions.
“The Municipal District of Fairview looks forward to participating in the newly formed GPRC Fairview Community Advisory Council,” said Reeve Peggy Johnson, Municipal District of Fairview No. 136. “The College is incredibly important to our community and to our region. The MD is happy to provide support and work with this council in whatever way we can.”
Later this year, GPRC leadership will appoint a permanent Chairperson for the group.
