Thursday, June 4th, 2020
GRANDE PRAIRIE/FAIRVIEW – GPRC’s upcoming fall semester will be offered through a mixed delivery model. This important decision was reached after extensive consultation with public health officials as well as staff, faculty and student working groups.
Criteria has been established to guide decision-making concerning delivery in September, prioritizing the health and wellbeing of students, faculty and staff above all else while continuing to deliver excellent learning experiences and comprehensive supports to achieve success in all delivery models for students. The College is currently finalizing the 2020-21 Relaunch Plan which will be available on the website for review.
In order to keep our community safe and to prevent further spread of COVID-19 the College is committed to mitigating risk and adhering to protocols, recommendations and guidelines of the Chief Medical Officer of Health for the Province of Alberta (Chief Medical Officer).
Decision-making for delivery in the fall is also being guided by the coordination of the College’s response with the advanced education sector in order to promote commonality and alignment with the system. The mixed delivery model is congruent with the selected method of delivery of the majority of institutions that have announced plans for their fall semesters.
The mixed delivery model encompasses remote delivery for most lecture and seminar course components, and in-person delivery for labs and practicum course components, where necessary and safe to do so. Planning for Fall 2020 included robust evaluation and adherence on a course-by-course basis to the requirements of the Chief Medical Officer in order to keep students, faculty and staff safe. The College is currently finalizing the list of courses and their fall semester delivery method. The list will be available on the website as soon as it is available.
In preparation for managing in-person learning, classrooms, labs and studios will undergo retro-fitting and enhanced cleaning and sanitization practices, along with adjustment to maximum capacities, consistent with public health requirements in order to ensure safety of students, faculty and staff. GPRC will mandate health and safety protocols enforcing physical distancing and requiring the use of masks when face-to-face interaction is required and physical distancing is not possible, in accordance with requirements of the Chief Medical Officer.
GPRC is committed to maintaining an excellent and positive learning experience and providing access to support services to all students, regardless of whether courses are being delivered in-person or remotely. Details of services will be posted on the website as they are finalized.
In keeping with the College’s commitment to open and transparent communication throughout this process, information will be shared on our website at gprc.me/COVID19 as we continue to forge through this new reality. We thank you for your continued patience.
