The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is proud to announce Sam Tu’ivai of the GPRC Wolves has been named the ACAC Men's Volleyball North Coach of the Year.
In his first year back with the Wolves, Coach Tu’ivai has had a positive effect on encouraging athletes to strive to the best of their abilities and progressing throughout the season. Tu’ivai’s coaching excellence is no surprise to the GPRC Wolves Athletic program due to him earning this title before when he coached the GPRC Wolves Women’s Volleyball team in 2016 to an ACAC Silver Medal and a 4th place at Nationals. With 15 years of experience in both playing and coaching volleyball, Tu’ivai’s dedication to the sport is evident when watching him interact with his team.
"Sam's passion and experience was evident in helping his team achieve its goals this season," said Thomas Slifka, GPRC Wolves Athletics Manager. “We are excited to have Sam’s expertise leading our athletes. His personality and philosophy on the court makes him a great addition to our Wolves culture."
The impressive results on the court this second semester are truly matched with how the team represents the college in the community of Grande Prairie and area and in the classrooms at the College.
"The leadership, competitiveness and dedication Sam has created with the team is a testament to his incredible coaching standards. The team’s hard work and passion has been awesome to watch unfold on the court. The College is proud of what they have accomplished and looks forward to where next season will take them,” said Slifka.
Tu’ivai received the award on February 26, 2020 at the ACAC Men's Volleyball Conference Championship Banquet held in Lethbridge, Alberta hosted by the Lethbridge College Kodiaks.
