Name: Sophie Leslie
Jersey Number. Is there a story behind it? #9. It was my jersey number in high school.
Hometown: Aberdeen, Scottland
High School: Charles Spencer High School
At what age did you start playing your sport? What drew you to the game? I started playing basketball in Grade 8 when my friend persuaded me to go to tryouts with her. I’ve never looked back.
What is your fondest memory of your sport? One of my favorite memories was getting to go to 4A Provincials during all three years of my high school career and playing against some of the best players in Alberta.
Any pre- or post-game rituals that you would be willing to share? How do you prepare? I love blasting music in my car on the way to the gym and getting hyped up with the team before warm up.
What are your future goals? In the future, I hope to become a physio therapist and hopefully stay involved with athletes and sport teams.
From Head Coach, Bill Bradley:
Any special game moments, stats you’d like to share? Sophie put up 19 points in our win against Kings University this season. That win was a defensive win for us, but having Sophie break out and shoot 50% from the field while grabbing 8 boards is what led the momentum shift to allow us to win it.
What does this player bring to the dynamics of the team? Sophie is a complete extension of myself and I trust her completely as captain of this team. We have similar values and both of us want this program to be successful for years to come. She sets the standard for the team in work ethic, and dedication.
