Lauren Hale-Miller leads the pack as the new Wolves Women's Volleyball Head Coach.
Grande Prairie, Alberta – As the new head coach for the GPRC Wolves women’s volleyball team, East Coaster Lauren Hale-Miller is excited to immerse herself in a new team culture on the opposite end of the coast.
“A major reason why this opportunity was so appealing to me was because of the importance I can see Wolves Athletics puts on building culture and community in its programs,” said Hale-Miller, who was given the opportunity to help build the team culture for the University of New Brunswick Saint John Seawolves over the last three years as head coach.
“It was very rewarding to create a winning team culture that emphasizes your strengths but also helps continue to build on your weaknesses,” said Hale-Miller. “I’m looking forward to figuring out what the Wolves can do and becoming a part of their culture.”
Hale-Miller has completed her Advanced Development Coach certification from the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) and is well on her way to finishing her Performance Coach certification.
“I love coaching because I love that ‘aha!’ moment athletes experience once they’ve perfected a skill and the determination they show to then go off and conquer the next one. It really drives me as a coach to continue to help athletes reach those moments,” said Hale-Miller.
Grande Prairie is known to be a volleyball community and that is something Hale-Miller can’t wait to experience.
“I’m very excited to get to Grande Prairie and start the conversations with other coaches, athletes and alumni who share the same love for the game,” she said.
Getting to know the current GPRC Wolves roster, however, is Hale-Miller’s first priority.
“It’s important to me to get to know what they like about the program, what they like about the community, what they like about the game and likewise what they don’t,” she said. “Together, I want to continue to build this program into something we can all be proud of.”
Wolves Athletics is looking forward to welcoming Hale-Miller, her coaching experience and energy to the court this upcoming season.
“We are excited for Lauren to join us at GPRC,” says GPRC Athletics Manager Thomas Slifka. “Her enthusiasm and desire to grow our student athletes into better citizens is evident. Her passion for the sport is contagious, and her previous coaching success at the CCAA level will help us continue to grow our women’s volleyball program and community programs in Grande Prairie.”
“If anything this season, I want to instill in the players the importance of commitment and dedication,” Hale-Miller finished. “It’s important to always have the expectations rising as something the players want. They should always want to be challenging themselves and raising their own bars. I’m excited to get started.”
The GPRC Wolves kick-off their ACAC season in October with their first den home game on October 18-19 versus the Keyano College Huskies.
