Friday, June 9th, 2017

GPRC Wolves coach Chris Morgan has been busy recruiting several players to the GPRC Wolves Men’s and Women’s Soccer teams.
With the belief that it’s important to strengthen every season, Morgan has added several recruits to the Women’s squad, despite having a great season last year, reaching Nationals for the first time. On the Men’s side, the team will look totally different, with seven new faces, and some old faces returning. Morgan, excited with the new recruits’ states that there has been a lot of hard work to have the athletes commit to the College, and soccer program, adding that he is optimistic that both squads can improve on last year’s achievements.
Local recruits have been added along with players from Edmonton, Calgary, Dawson Creek and Fort St John.
On the Women’s side local girls Alexi Watson and Ashythn Haycock have comitted to the squad, together with Brynn Kramer-Basaraba from Edmonton, Madison Gillespie and Alexandra Verhun from Calgary. Tanniesha Demers and Emily Mason were added to the squad in February.
Alexi Watson, a product of the local Wolves Club, is an excellent athlete. She can play centre forward or centre back and will be a wonderful addition. She has pace, good touch and can score goals which is so important in the game.
Ashytn Haycock is another local talent. She can play in a number of positions and will be a great asset as she has two good feet, good vision, game understanding and has a terrific shot.
Brynn Kramer-Basaraba is a goalkeeper joining from Edmonton. She has great agility and communicates well with her defense. She will battle with another Edmonton girl Michelle Brodeur for a starting place.
Madison Gillespie and Alexandra Verhun are products of the South West United Club in Calgary. Madi is a lively centre forward, skillful and is always a threat. Alex is a tall strong running midfielder with a physical presence which we lacked at times last season.
On the Men’s side local boys Carson Coady and Zack Fischer have been added. Paul Greschner, Rui Vale, Zach L’hereux and Gage Adkins hail from Fort St John while Conor DeCosta is from Dawson Creek.
Carson Coady is a talented athlete at both Volleyball and Soccer. He is tall, reads the game well, communicates and is aggressive. He will be an asset in our defense.
Zack Fischer is a powerful centre forward. Pacey with a super shot and a great attitude to the game Zack comes alive in the opposition box.
Paul Greschner is a strong midfielder. Technically excellent with a good range of passing. We hope he has recovered from ankle problems to push for a starting spot.
Rui Vale is a skillful winger with excellent close control. He dribbles well and has a terrific shot in either foot. Originally from Portugal he has great awareness of time and space.
Zach L’Hereux is a dangerous speedy forward who will offer another attacking threat. Small but lightening quick.
Gage Adkins will battle Brandon Harvey for the goalkeeping position. Gage has great reflexes, strong hands with excellent distribution.
Conor daCosta is a midfielder who works hard and always wants to learn. His passing is good and can be used in a number of positions. A real team player.
Zack Fisher, Rui, Gage, Conor and Zach L’Hereux all played for Morgan in the Wolves U18 squad that won Tier two Provincials in Calgary last month.
Coach Morgan and GPRC Wolves Athletic program welcome all the players to the College and the Athletics program, and look forward to watching them build the soccer program to compete with the best teams in the ACAC. Always on the lookout for talent, Morgan states that there may be more additions in the future because adding new talent keeps returning players on their toes, and creates competition within the squad which is always good, if we aim to be successful.
