Prior to moving into his current role as Dean in 2019, Dr. Redmond was an instructor in the Department of Science. He joined the institution in 2010 after spending 2.5 years as a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Calgary in the Department of Computer Science. He has taught numerous university level courses in mathematics, statistics, and computer science at Northwestern Polytechnic, the University of Calgary, and at College of the Rockies in Cranbrook, B.C. In addition, he has taught several courses in mathematics and physics in the Department of Academic Upgrading. He is a passionate instructor and espouses academic excellence and a constructivist philosophy on teaching and learning.
Dr. Redmond holds a BSc (Honours) in Physics-Mathematics, an MSc in Applied Mathematics, and a PhD in Pure Mathematics from the University of Ottawa (2008). He has additional training in computer programming, emerging technologies, and artificial intelligence from McGill University, SAIT and other institutions. His areas of expertise include physics, mathematical modelling and dynamical systems, logic and foundations of mathematics, and theoretical computer science, including programming language design and implicit computational complexity. During his tenure at GPRC, now Northwestern Polytechnic, he has published articles in Information and Computation and Theoretical Computer Science and has presented research papers at several international conferences.
