More About Amanda
Amanda Heiford brings an eye for detail and more than 20 years of experience in external and internal communication, marketing, public affairs and community engagement to her current Communications and Marketing Director role with NWP.
She is a skilled communication specialist with a portfolio of achievements across industries and a particular fondness for writing, strategic planning, crisis management and media relations. A self described “word nerd”, Amanda thoroughly enjoys discovering new information and connecting dots.
Prior to returning to her Alberta roots, Amanda launched her career in Australia where she lived for more than a decade and held a number of senior positions with increasing responsibility while employed by the state government health entity.
As the Director of Health Promotion at Queensland Health's Gold Coast Public Health Unit, she was responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating multiple population health initiatives within the community. Amanda also gained significant experience during the planning and commissioning of a state-of-the-art, 750 bed University Hospital as well as an extensive hospital expansion, which saw an existing facility more than double its capacity.
Upon her return to Canada, Amanda joined Alberta Health Services (AHS) as a Senior Communications Advisor with the Human Resources team. She facilitated the successful transition of 90,000 staff to a province-wide, online HR and Payroll system and supported various workplace health and safety programs, executive education initiatives and a recruitment campaign targeting health professionals.
Her work on the Save Lives...Immunize project was recognized with an Award of Excellence in Internal Communications by the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC).
Amanda holds a BSc in Human Ecology from the University of Alberta where she majored in Family and Consumer Studies as well as a Graduate Certificate in Health Management from Queensland University of Technology. When she's not fine-tuning key messages, you'll find Amanda chauffeuring her boys to dangerous sporting adventures or collecting tiny dog sweaters for her fur obsession.
