skils in that particular field. Generally the admission requirements for a Certificate are more relaxed
than in an Apprenticeship program, and you'll gain the skills needed to show an employer your commitment to
your field.
Certificate programs provide you with full background information about the trade, giving you a complete
understanding of why things are done they way they are. The knowledge you gain as a certified
tradesperson,will give you the flexibility to bridge the "professional" side with the
"technical" side, allowing you to find your own balance between design or management, versus hands-on
work.
Our institution is your best choice for programming as we have unique partnerships with local industry,
creating
opportunities like the Harley-Davidson® Technician program, for which we offer the only training
centre in Canada. We have also partnered with Finning Canada and Caterpillar Inc. to bring you the
ThinkBIG program.

Harley-Davidson® Technician - Fairview Campus
Our institution is home to the only authorized training centre in Canada for Harley-Davidson®
motorcycles. In this 15-week program, we provide quality training to produce the finest
technicians for authorized Harley-Davidson® retailers across Canada. Our modern facilities are
combined with top-quality instruction and current curriculum.

Harley-Davidson® Classic Powertrain - Fairview Campus
Starting in 2022.
Rev up your knowledge and ability to repair Classic models of the legendary Harley-Davidson®
motorcycle. The Classics are special for a reason and they deserve a tailored program to understand
their intricacies. This advanced certificate is a great option whether you're looking to increase your
skills for employment or simply wanting the confidence to repair your own bike.

Motorcycle Mechanic - Fairview Campus
As a Motorcycle Mechanic, you repair and maintain many different brands and models of street, off-road,
and dual sport bikes. This popular program gives you the required experience to land your first job. Our
students receive training in motorcycle charging, starting and ignition systems, four-stroke tuning and
top end diagnosis, inspection and reconditioning procedures, transmissions, crankshaft repair and more.
Graduates of this program may have the opportunity to challenge the Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry
Training (AIT) exams for first and second year Motorcycle Mechanic.

Power Engineering - Fairview Campus
The 5th Class Power Engineering certificate is currently under review,
and will not be accepting students for the 2022-2023 academic year. This applies to the 5th
Class certificate only. If you would like more information, please fill out and submit the form
found in the "Find out more" section on this page.
Our Power Engineering is a program with entry and exit points throughout the program. Students can
enter at the beginning of the program and continue for two years, finishing with a full Interprovincial
Third Class Power Engineering Certificate of Competency issued by Alberta Boilers Safety Association
(ABSA). Students may also exit after the Fourth Class portion with a full Fourth Class Interprovincial
Power Engineers Fourth Class Certificate of Competency (issued by ABSA). Students who need to complete
either portion of the Third Class Power Engineering Certificate of Competency may enter the program at
that time and complete either Part A or Part B of the Third Class Interprovincial Power Engineering
Certificate of Competency.

Heavy Oil Plants, Petrochemical Plants, Pulp Mills, Food Production Plants, Refineries and Hospitals
ThinkBIG Heavy Equipment Technician - Fairview Campus
The ThinkBIG Service Technician program is a unique partnership between our institution, Caterpillar
Inc., and
Finning Canada - Caterpillar’s largest dealership worldwide. We are the only post-secondary
institution in Canada to offer this globally recognized training program, which is custom-formulated to
meet Alberta Apprenticeship examination requirements. Students gain highly technical knowledge and
hands-on skills directly related to Cat® equipment. Finning Service Technicians put analytical
troubleshooting and problem-solving skills to use in an active and physical work environment.

Welding, Pre-Employment - Grande Prairie Campus
Welders join or sever metals in beams, girders, vessels, piping and other metal components, make metal
parts used in construction and manufacturing plants, and weld parts, tools, machines and equipment.
This pre-employment certificate covers 1st-period welding skills such as basic joints, types of welds,
welding symbols and weld faults, combined with employability skills which are highly sought after by
employers. You will receive hands-on training and experience which may allow graduates of the program to
challenge the first-period apprenticeship exam.
