Apprenticeship is the route to go if you have some knowledge or skills in an area along with a connection in the
industry. Because you train while working, you get paid a wage for your time, except for the small
portion you spend in the classroom. You gain hands-on experience at the same time as you learn the theory
behind what you're doing, making it easy to understand what you're learning and why.
To become an apprentice, you must be at least 16 years old and meet the minimum educational requirements for your
trade. Typically apprentices train for four years and then write provincial examinations set by industry
and the Government of Alberta. Successful completion allows you to be certified by the Province as a
qualified tradesperson or journeyperson. Upon completion of the program you may also write interprovincial exams
to obtain Red Seal status.
Our institution offers a number of apprenticeship programs in partnership with the Governtment of
Alberta's, Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training (AIT). Once you have decided
on the program you want, take the next step and apply to AIT!
