Business Mentorship Program

Our institution encourages strong links between our students and the Grande Prairie and area business community. We invite all members of the business community to participate in this initiative. 

What's Involved? 

Members of the business community can mentor students in any or all of the following ways:

• Meet with students one-on-one at your office to talk about your industry/organization. The purpose of such a conversation could assist a student in identifying career possibilities, skills and education they need to pursue, as well as to learn what expectations there are from industry to create career success in your field. 
• The Business Administration program offers a course in Small Business Entrepreneurship, in which students create a business plan for a new venture. Students in this course would benefit from the opportunity to meet with local entrepreneurs who could provide feedback, comments and/or suggestions about a student's ideas. 
• Each March, students organize a Student Business Conference. We always need participation from local business leaders who could offer a breakout session about their industry/organization.
• Each April, the Entrepreneurship students host a Business Trade Show to demonstrate the ideas and plans they have developed for the creation of a new business venture. We are looking for local business leaders to provide comments, questions, and suggestions to students at this event. This kind of feedback is incredibly valuable for the students. 
• Students are eager to hear from local experts in a wide range of business areas such as human resources, business management, sales, accounting, finance, leadership, and marketing. We would like to create a "Speakers Bureau", consisting of business leaders who are able to give a presentation in a class about a specific topic.
• One of the best ways for students to learn about the local business community is to meet local business people. However, they are often intimidated or shy about introducing themselves. The regular Chamber of Commerce mixers provide a superb opportunity for networking. Mentors could accompany students to a mixer and introduce them to other business people.

There is no financial cost or time requirement. Mentors can get as involved with mentorship as they wish. Mentors may also terminate their participation in the mentorship program at any time without obligation.

What's in it for you? 

In addition to having a positive impact on our emerging business leaders, this can provide the mentor, with the opportunity for recruitment of employees. We will also provide an annual Mentorship Certificate, for display within the mentor's organization.
