NWP Adds Another Impactful Degree Offering
Tuesday, November 19th, 2024
Northwestern Polytechnic (NWP) has secured yet another local degree that will benefit northern communities and future generations. Starting in Fall 2025, aspiring elementary school educators will be able to obtain their full teaching qualification right in the Peace Country.
“Northwestern Polytechnic has worked incredibly hard to collaboratively identify and establish new degree pathways that reflect local workforce needs and opportunities,” said NWP President and CEO, Dr. Vanessa Sheane. “The Bachelor of Elementary Education is in good company, alongside our four-year Bachelor of Business Administration, and Bachelor of Computing Science degrees.”
Adding a third degree, in under three years, is further evidence of NWP's responsiveness to learners and employers and an advantage of the polytechnic designation.
“As a polytechnic, we now have the flexibility to deliver a range of credentials that successfully merge theoretical and experiential learning,” said NWP Provost and Vice President Academic, Dr. Terry Kowalchuk. “This new degree is a welcome addition on campus and in the North where demand for educators is high.”
Bachelor of Education students will benefit from NWP’s heightened focus on work-integrated learning. Weekly learning labs in local schools will give NWP students the opportunity to apply their knowledge while teaching literacy and numeracy skills in small-group settings. This practical approach will help nurture connections, and further prepare students for the standard field experience component of the degree.
Applications will open soon for the Fall 2025 semester.
NWP is looking forward to welcoming students and announcing even more degree programming soon, pending the success of our Bachelor of Education, Secondary specialization proposal which is currently under review.
