The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) honoured two members of Northwestern Polytechnic's (NWP) wolf pack at the 2023-2024 ACAC Men's Basketball Championship Awards on Thursday, February 29.
NWP is pleased to celebrate Evan Lloyd, Head Coach for the Wolves Men's Basketball team as being named the ACAC Men's Basketball North Coach of the Year, and Emmanuel (Manny) Iloka, 4th year Forward for the Wolves as an All-Conference Athlete.
Coach Evan Lloyd has been coaching basketball since 2007, starting at a local high school in Grande Prairie, Alberta. He joined the Wolves program in 2014 as a part-time assistant coach, and in the 2017/2018 season, he became Head Coach. In his 6 seasons as Head Coach, he has had the pleasure of coaching fantastic athletes, many of whom have won prestigious ACAC awards including Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year, and All Conference awards. He is always proud to see his athletes succeed after leaving the NWP court, with some playing professionally or at the USport level. As a local product of Grande Prairie, Evan enjoys promoting the sport of basketball in the area and giving back to the community by working with local elementary schools or coaching young athletes.
"In his 6 years as Head Coach, Evan has consistently demonstrated he is a fantastic X's and O's coach with an eye for detail," said Travis Duncan, Athletic Director for NWP Wolves. "Evan's leadership was on full display this season as he effectively led his young squad through some mid-season adversity and secured their highest placing in his 6 years at the helm. He possesses a commitment to detail in film breakdown, analytics and practice planning while placing an emphasis on developing his team supported philosophy. This is a great achievement for a well-deserving coach. We are all proud of his accomplishment."
Manny Iloka joined the Wolves roster in the 2018/2019 season and has made a lasting impact on the ACAC and NWP's athletic program. Sporting #20 on his jersey, Manny is well-known by his peers, teammates, and coaches as a leader on and off the court. A fan favourite athlete, Manny has given the NWP community many reasons to celebrate during gametime, including:
- 1327 Career Points - Making him 19th all-time in the ACAC and 3rd all-time for the Wolves.
- 900 Total Rebounds - Making him 2nd all-time in the ACAC and crowning him leader status at NWP.
- 201 Blocks - Making him 1st all-time in the ACAC and at NWP.
- 110 Steals - Making him 2nd all-time for the Wolves.
Manny has set records for the most blocks in a single game with 10 and set records for the most defensive rebounds in a single game with 20.
NWP is proud of the accomplishments of these two outstanding wolf pack members. Their well-deserved prestigious awards were recognized at the 2023-2024 ACAC Men's Basketball Championship hosted by the Keyano College Huskies in Fort McMurray, Alberta.
Congratulations, Evan and Manny.
