More About Christy
Growing up on a commercial cow/calf operation in northern Alberta’s Peace River region, Christy knew she wanted to be of help to farmers like her parents and grandparents. Graduating from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture in 1999, she went directly to Saskatoon to graduate with her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2003. Christy spent some time in large animal private practice, but returned to WCVM to complete a Master of Veterinary Science and residency in Theriogenology in 2006. In 2007, a return to Alberta and her family’s farm allowed for experience in mixed animal practice. Christy and her partner Trevor started their small family in 2010 and that life change progressed to instructing in the AHT program at GPRC, now Northwestern Polytechnic, where she enjoys teaching an introduction to artificial insemination, ultrasonography of beef cattle, theriogenology and all things clinically based. With two young boys and now a daughter in tow, Christy dedicates much of her spare time to volunteering at minor hockey and 4H, being a member of the Board of directors for the local daycare and participating in Parent Council at her sons’ schools. The entire family enjoys membership with the Peace Draft Horse Club and focuses on preserving western heritage through operating with equine-based agricultural practices like those demonstrated at her hometown’s annual plowing match.
