More About Bernie

Bernie Matlock has been working in post-secondary for over 16 years. Bernie’s extensive experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter brought her to NWP, formally GPRC, in the year of 2006. In 2008, Bernie was successful in becoming the first full time Disabilities Coordinator at GPRC. This position provided supports for all students with disabilities. With passion and drive, Bernie took on this challenge and created a safe place for students who required additional supports. 

In 2013, Bernie took a break and attended GPRC to complete her Fitness Leadership Diploma and earned her Certification as a Personal Trainer (PT). For the past 7 years, Bernie has worked part time with PT clients in ways to incorporate physical activity into their daily lives. Bernie is a proud Metis woman from the North, her approach is holistic and is derived from the Indigenous medicine wheel perspective; Wellness = Physical, Emotional, Mental and Spiritual.

Bernie is continually providing supports to students at NWP in the role as a Financial Aid Advisor. Bernie loves to challenge herself personally and professionally, and hopes to empower others to do so as well.

She loves spending her free time in her backyard working in the garden, or running, hiking, walking in the woods with her dog, and backcountry camping.
