Position Summary
Reporting to the Superintendent and mentored by senior operations staff, the Operator Trainee position involves gaining comprehensive knowledge and hands-on experience with equipment, gas operations, maintenance, and monitoring of facilities and pipelines.
The successful candidate will become well-versed in all aspects of gas plant operations, including safety procedures, troubleshooting, production logging, start-up, shutdown, and equipment maintenance. This role is crucial for ensuring the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible operation of our gas-gathering systems.

What You'll Do:
-Achieve safe, efficient, and environmentally sound operations of all Pipestone Gas Gathering System equipment and connecting pipelines.
-Provide quick identification and response to emergencies. Understand, abide by, and follow Emergency Response Procedures.
-Work with the Senior Operator or Operations Team Lead to improve site-specific training, process safety management, and special projects. Update operating procedures as required.
-Respond to normal operations, adverse conditions, or serious situations using team members, management, or external expertise as needed.
-Ensure all on-site activities comply with AltaGas’ guidelines, EOH&S, codes of practice, and other policies. Address concerns immediately and notify Senior Operator or Operations Team Lead.
-Troubleshoot process equipment and issues. Communicate and assist other operators as needed.
-Participate in pre-job briefings and work permitting. Ensure non-routine or high-risk jobs are reported and approved.
-Prepare equipment for maintenance following all process and safety procedures, including lock-out/tag-out and use of personal protective equipment.
-Maintain good housekeeping at all times. Clean any areas presenting safety or environmental hazards.
-Continuously improve skills and knowledge to enhance professional competence.
-Report any health, safety, security, environmental, or EOH&S management system incidents, concerns, or near misses. Record all non-conformances.
-Assist the maintenance department with general maintenance tasks.
Generate work orders for equipment with the Senior Operator or Operations Team Lead. Enter equipment repair requests into the Maximo system.
-Maintain sensitive and confidential information regarding company operations.
-Communicate effectively and confidently with Pipestone Producers (customers) about nominated flows and curtailments.
-Provide backup and/or relief for senior positions when personnel are on vacation.
What You Need:
-Grade 12 education or equivalent.
-Valid driver’s license.
-Must be at least 18 years of age.
-1-3 years of experience in facility or pipeline operations is preferred, but not required.
-Willing to work required overtime and taking on-calls while on shift.
-Ability to wear fire retardant clothing and personal protective equipment (such as steel-toe shoes, ear, and eye protection) including SCBA/SABA.
-Ability to work outside in harsh weather conditions.
-Ability to work full-time, 40 hours per week.
-Ability to learn computer software associated with process operations.
-Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Where You'll Work:
Located outside Grande Prairie, Alberta, the Pipestone Gas Gathering System supplies production from various third-party producers to the AltaGas Pipestone Gas Plant. The Gathering System is a network of pipelines that deliver high-value production to the Pipestone plant as well as incorporating a pipeline system of sales quality of gas to egress markets and interconnection to the Dimsdale Gas Storage Facility.
