This office is responsible for the provision of institutional leadership as well as guidance related to Northwestern Polytechnic’s academic programs, applied research, and student services. With a focus on advancing NWP’s polytechnic mandate, growing student enrolment, and enhancing engagement, NWP’s leadership team is ready for a productive future.

Message from The President

Alberta’s newest polytechnic is ready to work. With a powerful polytechnic designation and industry aligned programming, our Fairview and Grande Prairie campuses are teeming with opportunity. I am honoured to lead NWP forward and, in doing so, to serve our valued students, staff, faculty and broader learning community.

With a staff and faculty team of 400 strong and growing, I recognize that there is a wealth of knowledge and skills on which to draw. I feel very fortunate to have the support of our learning community, and to have experienced various roles on campus earlier in my career, including Provost and Vice-President Academic, Dean, Chairperson, and tenured Faculty member with the Department of Nursing Education & Health Studies.

As someone who was born and raised in northwest Alberta, I have a deep appreciation for the talent, resources and exceptional individuals within our distinctive communities. I am looking forward to not only strengthening these vital connections, but also developing new and impactful partnerships along the way.

Installation Ceremony

Vanessa Sheane was installed as Northwestern Polytechnic’s 11th President and CEO on January 29, 2024.

More than 300 attendees including dignitaries, local leaders, faculty and staff, students, and members of the community took in the event which featured heartfelt speeches, presentations, and performances by local musical artists and three-time world champion Indigenous hoop dancer Dallas Arcand.
