Services for Indigenous Students
Indigenous Liaison Coordinator
The Indigenous Liaison Coordinator offers students support on their journey of furthering their education, recognizing and promoting the need to weave together the world of an Indigenous person with a student's life. Students can expect that the Coordinator will champion Indigenous Culture and ensure that it is celebrated and honoured within Northwestern Polytechnic.
In addition, the Coordinator works with Indigenous Communities, Councils and Elders to create educational opportunities for students and will support students in finding and utilizing community resources to meet their needs.
Elder In Residence
The Elder in Residence program provides students with a consistent and approachable Elder who can help address the struggles of being a student. They give guidance on incorporating the traditional life with the life of being a student. Additionally, the Elder in Residence provides teachings about Indigenous culture and spirituality, advises faculty and administration, and gives class presentations when invited to do so.
Students at NWP benefit from the support and guidance of Elder in Residence, Theresa Gladue. Our Elder has the unique ability to meet students' needs holistically by offering support and guidance to them and their families. The Elder also address spiritual needs through song and ceremony, which are key elements of success for students.
