Grab the Tools for Success
From electrical experts to parts technicians and construction craftspeople, there is an NWP technician or journeyperson in every corner of the skilled trades. Our hands-on approach to learning, delivered by industry-trained professionals, develops highly sought-after technicians and tradespeople.
Industry partnerships with global corporations like Caterpillar Inc. and Finning Canada give our graduates distinctive skills and a head start into careers maintaining some of the largest machinery on earth. We are proud to host the only authorized Harley-Davidson® Training Centre in Canada, and have graduated dozens of technicians who keep the sound of these iconic machines rumbling along highways across the globe.
Whether you choose a rewarding apprenticeship or a more condensed certificate program, a productive future is within reach.
Apprenticeships CertificatesApprenticeships
Apprenticeship programs are the perfect way to jump-start your career if you have a connection to an employer and knowledge or experience in an area of the skilled trades. Your training will consist of classroom time and on-the-job training, which allows you to learn and earn while you power up your path to becoming a journeyperson.
To become an apprentice, you must be at least 16 years old and meet the minimum educational requirements for your trade. Typically apprentices train for four years and then write provincial examinations set by industry and the Government of Alberta. Once you successfully complete your apprenticeship, you will be certified by the Province as a qualified tradesperson or journeyperson. Upon completion of the program, you may also write interprovincial exams to obtain Red Seal status.
Certificates & Diplomas
Certificate and diploma programs allow students to pursue a career in the skilled trades without a connection to an employer or technical experience. Generally, the admission requirements are more relaxed than apprenticeship programs, so you can learn the necessary skills to show prospective employers your commitment to the trade of interest.
At NWP, we will provide you with full background information about the trade, giving you a complete understanding of industry practices. With the help of our experienced instructors, you will receive the knowledge, training and work experience you need to crank up your career prospects in the skilled trades.
