Areas of Research
Agriculture and Ecosystems
Our institution's flagship advanced microbiology and genetics laboratory in Beaverlodge, Alberta is equipped with leading-edge tools and resources to support research and diagnostics for a variety of industries across the agriculture and forestry sector
From animal nutrition and forage quality, crop and animal residues, pest entomology, to bioremediation, NWP’s Agriculture & Biosciences Applied Research Centre (ABARC) is poised to help communities and signature northern industries thrive.
The ABARC facility is also home to NWP’s National Bee Diagnostic Centre (NBDC) which is the only facility dedicated to improving bee health and providing innovative solutions to pollination challenges in Canada. Travel further north and you will find research plots and animal handling facilities at Fairview Campus.
With all these elements in place, NWP is eager to collaborate with local producers and other academic institutions on agricultural science, animal health, forage, agri-business and other areas of interest.
Energy and Environment
Northern Alberta is known globally for its largely resource-based economy. Naturally, we see this as a great foundation for entrepreneurial and innovative technology exploration.
Working together with industry and our communities, our goal is to support progress. Whether this includes optimization and responsible use of natural resources or that enhances efficiency and effectiveness, we are focused on practical solutions.
Health & Wellbeing
NWP is focused on quality solutions with an eye on rural health, social determinants of health, inequalities, mental health, the opioid crisis, innovative medical education opportunities and other emerging health care needs, . The transformative research stemming from our campuses, facilities and co-location within the region’s largest health centre promises to have a meaningful impact in our community and beyond.
Social Innovation
NWP’s Office of Applied Research and Innovation understands the value of strong connections. As we partner with community, policy champions and others we can collectively unpack complex social issues and work through effective, equitable and responsive approaches that will truly make a difference.
